Customer on the phone "I've bought a building in South Devon..." [Phone calls often start like this]...I say "Okay, what do you need to move?" Customer: "No, I've bought a building and I want to move it to Essex..." Bit big for me...

A bomb. Okay a mortar shell. Well a 100 year old shrapnel shell apparently, but it still looked seriously explosive. Nothing throws your schedule out like the Bomb Disposal Team. Actually my local police satisfied themselves it had been decommisioned, but when they arrived they were as convinced as I was that antique or not, it still meant business. I'd prefer it if customers who think I need a rocket could tell me first before it is rattling around in my van...
Mud. In over 100 bags... It is fair to say the earth moved for this customer. Seriously though, it was nice to be so down to earth.
Can I move an engine? Certainly, provided it's secured on a pallet and I don't have to lift it! However I was a bit surpised to find it was a 9 Litre Diesel Engine that stood nearly shoulder height... All went well on the day though
I have moved house! It was a humbling reminder of just how stressful and wearing this process can be...and unfortunately I didn't have someone like me to help it all go smoothly. Now based in East Devon, still within reach of my regular customers but better placed to cruise up and down the M5.
I have a little pin in the Google Places Map! Like most small businesses, a good rank on Google Search is one of the main ways I get new customers. Google Places is a great free way to plant yourself at the top of the organic search results.
I have taken advantage of the good weather to tidy up the van - nearly every scratch has been french polished with a little Tippex bottle of silver paint, and the cargo area has a gleaming coat of fresh white paint!
I have no experience of blogging, but I'll try to pick out anything vaguely interesting or relevant, and no doubt quite a few things that are
neither. Removals is a great business - simple to start but hard to run well. The business keeps me fit and takes me to endless new places meeting people from all walks of life.
